Setting Boundaries

Setting boundaries may be difficult, but without them, we are often left feeling overwhelmed and resentful. It’s a skill that’s essential to maintaining healthy relationships.

Since this doesn’t come naturally to many of us, here are some tips to help you along:

  • Be direct - Direct communication is key. Without it, you risk misunderstandings and your boundaries go unattended.

  • Don’t let the fear of being perceived as selfish stop you. Self care may appear as a selfish act to some, but that’s not your concern. We’re not able to be our best self without it.

  • Share your plan with a good friend who will support and hold you accountable.

  • If you’re hesitant, start small. Create your boundaries in stages if necessary.
