Owning Our Gifts
One of my gifts is clearly helping women look and feel their best. As clear as it is and as easy as it comes to me, I resist it! I resist because during times when there is so much dysfunction, pain, injustice and need for change, my gift feels superficial with no place in the conversation. But… what would it look like if I allowed it to be... to exist… to have a voice in the conversation?
Perhaps at times like this, when we feel unheard, devalued and marginalized, we need more than ever to find ways to celebrate our magnificence and soothe our souls. Magnify our beauty in our surroundings, create our look in a way that celebrates our curves and rich culture, come together in hope filled and inspiring conversation and call to action. These are the ways my gift manifests itself, so perhaps even during the ugliest of times, there is room at the table for it in the healing and rebuilding of my community.
There is something powerful in owning our gifts, WHATEVER they are. It allows us to share the best parts of ourselves and make way for the gift to find its way to the people and situations that need it most. Who am I to deny God’s work that flows through me?
Much Love, Monet
